04/05/14 Air Jordan 1 Retro Hi OG
555088-104 White/Black-Neutral Grey
After paying tribute to Michael Jordan’s stint with the Chicago White Sox and their minor league affiliate, the Birmingham Barons with the Air Jordan 9 Retro “Barons”, it seems like the Jordan Brand will continue to show more love to the “45”. The Air Jordan 1 Retro “Barons” come equipped with the same white/grey/black color blocking as well as as white midsole and grey outsole. A pinstriped inner lining gives it an MLB feel while lovely 3M laces give it a dramatic flair. Check the pics and give us your take on this next edition that pays homage to MJ’s first retirement.
As the release date for the Air Jordan 9 “Birmingham Barons” continues to draw nearer we are afforded more and more pictures of these iconic Jordans. Symbolizing the time period when Jordan left the bright lights of the basketball court for the baseball diamond, the shoe sports the same colors as the minor league team which Jordan suited up for.
Today, more from the brand’s 2014 lineup surfaces as we get a first full look at the “Baron” Air Jordan 9’s which will be hitting retailers in April. This pair is named and designed after the minor league baseball team on which Michael Jordan played before being called up to the majors and batting for the Chicago White Sox.
The Air Jordan 5Lab3 is the newest model in the Air Jordan Elements collection. The Air Jordan 3 is a perfect canvas to showcase iconic elements from the Air Jordan 5. An upper made almost completely of reflective Metallic Silver is the hallmark of this Lab creation, with touches of Elephant Print and hits of Powder Blue.
These Old school renditions are being brought back in remembrance of the beginning of the sneaker revolution. This 1985 design was constructed by Peter Moore, and it changed the image of the NBA hardwood floors forever. These Air Jordan Retro 1 KPO High OG Basketball shoes were non-regulation sneakers, and it brought attention to Michael Jordan because of Nike accepting $5,000 fines for every game, but Michael Jordan’s playing skills forever changed basketball, and he has since become an NBA legend. These Air Jordan Retro 1 KO High OG Basketball Shoes are a slight rendition of the Air Jordan 1s, but these are applies with a canvas upper, and an added “AJ KO Wings Logo” symbol upon the straps. Of course, the Chicago Bulls inspiration is obvious with this black, red, and white colorway that also has features from the Nike Vandal that contains its anatomical flex grooves, and its concentric circle design upon the outsoles. With only being released in specially selected FootLocker House of Hoops stores, make sure you get chosen to put your hands on a pair. You can also check www.beenonkicks.com to see which sizes they have left available to buy now. #BeenOnKicks or @BeenOnKicks for a shoutout.
This luxurious rich floral material is definitely quite unique, quite classy, and quite exclusive. If it wasn’t for the shoe store that sweep stales that has been taking place, then I’m sure that this would have been outrageously crazy when it came to copping a pair of these KD VI EXT QS ‘Floral.’ The hue of these shoes can be paired in many different stylistic aspects, and almost seen in any season being worn. No hyperfuse to be infused upon this thick layered floral material with added d-ring eyelets. The large black branded swoosh finds a way to not blend in on the forefoot by being a shiny plastic like glossy material – which appears to be the only thing easy to clean upon these. I wouldn’t recommend rocking these to a rowdy location because these shoes can’t be dry cleaned, lol. The orange window upon the back half Air insole is a great touch and a wild mild highlight to the earth toned black and green hues, and the blue based translucent sides, outsole, and upper of the shoe that dwindled to cover the entire sole of the shoes is a great highlight upon the added white outsoles. You have definitely missed out on some major sneaker heat if you have missed these, but I recommend www.beenonkicks.com for any size runs that they may have left. #BeenOnKicks or @BeenOnKicks for a shoutout.
This is throwback video from one of our previous Sneaker events by Been On Kicks ! This has been a very exciting journey that we have been on, and we are looking forward to more things involved within this sneaker culture. New Orleans has showed love, but now we need even more love, and from other surrounding cities.
Support for the love of the shoes, and the excitement that it gives to you. You may not understand sneakers, but if you appreciate footwear, then you can relate. This is our art, this is our passion, and we want to express that in more modern ways, and project our creativity. There are more and more people turning this passion for shoes into a full time business, and this is just the beginning. We support a lot of people but we back MKTP, My Kicks The Passion, because they want to see us all win. There is no further competition unlike many others. We know that there is room to grow if we only support each other, so that is the focus, and it’s the motive behind the many things that we intend to pursue.
Just make sure that on Friday, March 28th, 2014, that you’re at Xavier University’s Convocation Center supporting us for our SneakerFest during XU’s SpringFest Alumni Basketball Game! Check out www.beenonkicks.com & visit us under other social networks @BeenOnKicks #BeenOnKicks
Mardi Gras 2014 brought continuous rain, and unexpected cold weather that didn’t keep their normal massive crowd, but that didn’t stop Zulu from starting on time and giving the people what they expect to see. In lieu of the rainy weather on Fat Tuesday, March 4th, 2014, members of the Krewe of Zulu, as well as other additions to the parade such as the school bands, other clubs, the Mayor, Mitch Landrieu – who led the New Orleans police vanguard on horseback, which started Zulu – and a host of radio stations including Power 102.9’s own Downtown Lesli Brown kept the Zulu parade alive.
Downtown Lesli Brown was accompanied by 106.7 riding in the truck before her with her mother Claudia throwing Mardi Gras goodies. The official Power 102.9 truck included Captain Chris McCall – driving – and her daughter Taylor, accompanying her to toss Mardi Gras goodies to all in attendance during the Zulu parade. Downtown Lesli Brown’s official street team, Alexis and Kelli, walked the entire Zulu parade with her to toss Mardi Gras goodies and to capture the great moments that occurred during Zulu, as well as to promote her “I Choose Peace” movement that will be evolving in the months to come.
Downtown Lesli Brown gives so much energy to the crowd, as many are calling on her name to capture her attention, to give a hug, to grab some beads, and some to even take a picture. Because the parade rolls with very few stops, she wasn’t able to give much time, but she left plenty with big smiles on their faces from her brief interaction. Loved by so many, the rain and cold weather did not slow her down at all. It continued to be one large party, and by no surprise, she showed why she’s Queen of the party station, Power 102.9.
Downtown Lesli Brown showed off her dance moves, ran to the crowds to take pictures with people supporting not only her, but her “I Choose Peace” movement, and tossed plenty beads with so much enthusiasm, and the deserving crowd appreciated all of her personality. There were so many fans that came up just to say how much they loved something about her, it made tossing beads in the rain no hassle at all. Carnival time is always so exciting, and for brief moments of entertaining parade enthusiasts that enjoy not only the Krewe of Zulu but other favorites of New Orleans including Power 102.9s Downtown Lesli Brown, makes for a memorable day.
Downtown Lesli Brown not only paraded through the streets of New Orleans with the Krewe of Zulu, but she hosted one of the most entertaining during the day celebration of Mardi Gras, which is being “Under the Bridge on North Claiborne and Orleans. There were various artists that perform, and there are many by passers that collect themselves around their stage and the busy streets of New Orleans to walk and view all in attendance. Mardi Gras is an exciting time, and it remained exciting despite the upset weather, so stay tuned for plenty pictures, and more video footage of how Power 102.9s Downtown Lesli Brown spent her Mardi Gras 2K14.
We’ve Been Around! We’ve Just Been Underground! Back Again & If You’re Reading This, Thank You For Your Support!
We would love to see as many shoe collectors to come out and showcase what’s been hidden in their closets. It’s all in good fun, art, culture, trading, buying, and selling, and entertainment, so continue to support the Been On Kicks movement.
Definitely a meet and greet and something positive for New Orleans it’s locals. New Orleans has gotten the recognition of corporate sneaker sellers such as FootLocker Inc. with House of Hoops opening two new locations less than 10 miles from each other. The numbers don’t lie, and we are here to continually leave our mark as not newcomers, but underground sneaker aficionados. We’ve been around, we’ve just been underground, and now we’re expanding more into the digital world to leave our mark, because we’ve had such a great impact already by word of mouth.
This year will be another interesting one, and bouncing back from a New Orleans hosted All Star Weekend, we will keep this culture going by throwing our Sneaker Art Expo during Xavier’s SpringFest Alumni Basketball Game in Xavier’s Convocation Center. Friday, March 28th, 2014 is the official date of Been On Kicks event, and it will take place from 6:00pm – 10:00pm. There will also be an official celebration party following outside of the Xavier Convocation Center. Look forward to an enjoying evening, full of entertainment and creativity. We look forward to your support with Been On Kicks.
We also realize that with the Sneaker Culture breeds many brands, so we would love to see plenty vendors supporting us once again. We welcome all types of companies, so let’s make history once again. We also make Sneaker Art a huge part of our event, so to all the different types of artists out there that the Sneaker Culture inspires, we want you to join us as well.
Xavier has been very supportive of this movement, and we appreciate them as we want to continue expanding, as we are surely cultural leaders for our region with this type of production. The way Xavier’s Convocation Center is set up will help keep focus on our Sneaker Show no matter what seat you have in the house. As soon as you walk through the door to as soon as you walk up the staircase, to the view upstairs, all you will see are Sneakers. At the same time, it’s also great that we will not be blocking any view of the game in the process.
This event isn’t for a certain age or for a certain demographic because when it comes to sneakers, it attracts people from all places who share the appreciation for footwear. It’s surprising to see how the variation of cultures are combined with bringing sneakers up, and we’re excited to continue showcasing what’s in store. We’re developing a world unheard of, so we’re bringing our rendition of sneaker culture New Orleans style. New Orleans is already known for it’s food, partying, and entertainment, but now we want to add another hot topic and bring fashion footwear into the mix.
Even if you are clueless about how popular the sneaker culture is, then this would be the perfect time for you to explore what’s in store. To see people crazed over a pair of shoes, for them to know the history behind the shoe, to know the upkeep and care that they put into their shoes, to hear the passion from people when they express the interest about their shoes, and to know how exclusive and high priced some of these shoes go for is something quite interesting to witness. For some people they might finally get a chance to see certain exclusive shoes in person so they come, for some people they might finally get the chance to discover a pair of shoes actually in their size that they have been looking for that someone in attendance is selling, and other set up in hopes to finally find buyers for an overstock or a change of heart for some shoes that they have.
When it comes to the art, we have people that actually have an inspiration for these sneaker inspired pieces, so they’re houses’ are artistically adorned in a media of art that relates to them, and for the artist, it gets their work noticed, and it gets them paid. There are many people that put in hours of their life making their sneaker inspired pieces come to life, and to finally have a place for that to work out and to actually have people appreciate their hard work is a thrill seeking experience.
